Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) aims to increase its number of governors in the South-South region. Currently, Cross River State is the only state in the geo-political zone with an APC governor.
As the APC coordinator for the South-South subregion, Otu expressed confidence that he would not be the only APC governor in the region after the September 2024 governorship election in Edo State, anticipating a win for the party.
Speaking at the conclusion of the South-South APC conference held in Calabar, he said, “Mr President can be assured that Edo State cannot escape the onslaught with the winning strategy represented in the Renewed Hope and People’s First. If we did it in Imo State, we can replicate the same in Edo State.”
Governor Otu humorously noted the importance of not being the only APC governor in the region, citing a sentiment from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The Almighty God himself detests loneliness. I read the lips of our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the leader of our great party. He said it was not good for Governor Otu of Cross River to be alone. Let’s add more states to him so that the zone will be politically warm within the APC temperature.”
Otu emphasised the need to fulfill President Tinubu’s vision by adding Edo State to the APC family, thereby justifying the president’s confidence in their political strategy.
