The forthcoming Ilọrin Durbar will be used to showcase the rich Islamic heritage and Qur’anic tradition of the emirate, according to the committee in charge.
Chairman of the 2024 Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar committee, Engr. Suleiman Alapasanpa, disclosed this at the Emir’s palace during a news conference to herald the event scheduled for two days after Eid- el-Kabir festival.
He said this year’s edition is unique, adding that its activities shall run for seven days with different programmes including the history of the present and past emirs.
Alapansapa said the horse procession will consist of over 500 horsemen led by the Emir, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to be accompanied by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other high chiefs and title holders.
He expressed delight that the festival has become a programme which unifies the people, adding that it has put Ilọrin emirate on the world tourism map.
“It has also boosted the local economy, hospitality industry and transportation sector in the state while showcasing our culture and traditions as a melting point for national coexistence irrespective of tribes and religion”, he submitted.
