The acting governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, has launched the sale of 100 trucks of fertilisers to farmers across the state at a 50 per cent discount in preparation for the rainy season.
During the flag-off event at the Farm Centre in Maiduguri, Kadafur stated that the 50 per cent fertiliser subsidy aims to make the product affordable for farmers.
He said the state initiated early distribution of these farm inputs to encourage active engagement in farming and to achieve self-sufficiency in food production.
“This programme highlights the government’s commitment to the agricultural sector, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity and ensure food sufficiency in the state,” Kadafur said.

“The availability of quality fertilisers is crucial for achieving bountiful yields and healthy crops.
“By distributing these fertilisers today, we are not just providing essential nutrients for the soil but also investing in the future of our agricultural sector and the prosperity of our nation,” he added.
Kadafur emphasised the importance of focusing on agriculture given the relative peace in most parts of the state.
He urged farmers, especially those in returnee communities, to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by Governor Babagana Zulum.
