Sallah: Police invite Bayero’s Durbar committee for security assessment

The police command in Kano has extended an invitation to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for security assessment meeting.

The invitation is in response to the Emir’s request for special security on the occasion of the upcoming Sallah festivities.

The correspondence was dated 11th June, 2024 and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Ahmed Umar Chuso, and addressed to the private secretary to the Emir.

It said, “Your letter No. HRH/ADM/06/1/217 dated 10/06/2024 on the above subject is hereby acknowledged. While the Command is looking into it, the Durbar committee is hereby requested to come forward for a joint meeting and to conduct security assessment of the situation as it is the normal practice in all the previous Sallah festivities.

“While awaiting your response, accept the assurances and esteem regards of the Commissioner of Police, please.”

Daily Trust reported that the Emir, through his private secretary had written to the police commissioner in the state requesting special security.

The request is coming on the heels of a lingering tussle that has polarised the emirate, following Bayero’s dethronment by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who reinstalled the 14th Kano Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi.
The governor had signed the new Kano emirate council law passed by the state Assembly, dissolving all the five emirates created under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
