Several bandits fled after a security team stormed their hideout in Zurutu Forest near Azzara village in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.
City & Crime earlier reported that last week a community raised alarm over the activities of bandits that turned parts of the Zurutu Forest as their hideout, saying most people abducted from Jere, Katari and Kagarko in Kaduna State, as well as Bwari Area council of the FCT, were being held hostage in the forest.
The FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igweh, who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday, said he led the joint operation that comprised of police anti-kidnap officers, hunters and vigilantes on Monday around 4pm during which a gun battle with the bandits ensued in the forest.
He said several of the bandits escaped with bullet wounds leaving behind valuables including mats, ropes and cooking utensils.
