Banditry: I haven’t slept in my house for 2 years – Kaduna chief

A village head in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State has said that he has not slept in his house in the last two years because of the threats of bandits.

The chief, who spoke with our reporter through telephone on Sunday, on condition of anonymity, said the bandits had been targeting to abduct him after they accused him of giving out information to troops about their movements.

He said, “It’s quite worrisome that for the past two years I have not slept in my own house and attend to my subjects in my palace because of the threats I have been receiving from bandits.”

He further said he was forced to move his family to a neighbouring village, even as he noted that he still usually attended to some important issues in his palace during the day.

He explained that, “I can’t deny that I don’t give information about the bandits’ movements, because they have caused a lot of destruction to the lives and property of my people. As I speak, farmers have deserted their farms because of fear of being killed or abducted.”

He, therefore, called on the state governments to liaise with the federal government on the need to deploy more troops to many rural communities that had been facing attacks to enable farmers to cultivate their farms.

City & Crime recalled that many farmers in some rural communities under both Kachia and Kagarko LGAs of the state have been tasked N100:000 each by bandits before they will be allowed to cultivate their lands.

Meanwhile, the Village Head of Bishini, Samuel Danbayi, who was abducted two months ago, regained his freedom last week after an N8m ransom was reportedly paid.

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hasan Mansur, was yet to react to the developments.
