Gombe varsity alumni bestows Life-Time Patron on Goje

The Gombe State University (GSU) Alumni Association has bestowed a Life-Time Patron of the association on Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, representing Gombe Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

Senator Goje was governor of Gombe state, between 2003 and 2011.

Presenting the award at his Asokoro residence in Abuja, National President of the association, Dr Buhari Magaji, said they appointed Senator Goje as their life-time patron because of his role in establishing the university, and achievements while serving as governor of the state.

He added that GSU is a brainchild of Goje, saying that the unwavering support accorded to the pioneer vice chancellor, late Professor Abdullahi Mahdi helped in laying a solid foundation for the university, “making it among the best higher education institutions in the country”.

According to him, Senator Goje’s exemplary leadership, and that of Professor Mahdi, “made it possible for the establishment of the Gombe State University Alumni Association, a body concerned with the improvement and development of the university.”

Dr Magaji described Goje as the “architect of modern Gombe state,” adding that the remarkable achievements recorded during Senator Goje’s eight years tenure as governor of the state, will forever be remembered by people of the state.

In his remarks, Senator Goje said he established to enable less privilege and women to have access to university education, in order to develop themselves and also contribute positively to the society.

He expressed gratitude to the alumni association for the honour and assured of his commitment to continue supporting education, and other aspects of human development in the state.
