Political actors and stakeholders have been advised to be committed to good governance, rebuilding trust and creating confidence to ensure social cohesion and conflict-free society after elections.
The Kukah Centre, operated by the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese of Catholic Church, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah, gave the advice during a conference organised for political actors in Bayelsa State yesterday.
Recall that the election petition tribunal had on Tuesday affirmed the re-election of Governor Douye Diri.
Speaking during the conference with the theme, ‘Strengthening Social Integration and Peace Initiative in Bayelsa State’, the Project Manager, The Kukah Centre, Emmanuel Nkanta, said the issues of mistrust and dissatisfaction arising from the outcome of elections informed the conference.

He described the event as a follow up to the November 2023 Peace Accord that was signed in the state ahead of the governorship election to commit candidates, political parties and key stakeholders to ensure peace before, during and after the elections.
Kukah, who is the Secretary, National Peace Committee was in the state prior to the governorship election to ensure the signing of peace accord with candidates of various political parties.
Nkanta said, “The elections may have come and gone yet there may be issues of trust deficit, issues that may have arisen at a point and may not augur well to every party involved.
“Therefore, the purpose of this programme is to remind members that we need to rebuild trust, create confidence, to ensure that peace building is properly protected and that we have no state other than Bayelsa State.”
