The Alliance for Credible Legislative Conducts (ACLC), a civil society organisation, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and anti-corruption agencies to investigate the recently dissolved National Steel Council (NSC) board over allegations of financial infractions.
ACLC’s chairman, Comrade Afuye Olushola, made the call in a statement on Sunday.
He said despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to dissolve all federal government agency boards, the National Steel Council continued to operate until the Senate and the House of Representatives intervened, demanding its dissolution.
The NSC was eventually dissolved in May following public outcry. Before its dissolution, the NSC board had informed the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, of an alleged N1 billion fraud that it linked to its Executive Secretary, Ambassador Abdulqadir Musafari.

However, findings showed that the dissolved council allegedly approved financial allocations exceeding the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPP) threshold.
When the Executive Secretary rejected these allocations, allegations of administrative and financial misconduct within the council surfaced.
It was gathered that the council exceeded its mandate by making financial decisions without budgetary provisions or due process, such as procuring vehicles, appointing legal counsel/consultants, and renting offices without proper allocation or adherence to financial regulations.
In response to these revelations, ACLC urged President Tinubu and anti-corruption agencies to investigate the dissolved council thoroughly, ensuring the return of any illegally acquired assets.
