A former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, has said President Bola Tinubu should learn from the mistakes of previous governments and address the issues that brought Nigeria to its knees.
He said this would guide and allow President Tinubu to run a successful government.
Gen. Abdulsalami, who is the Chairman, National Peace Committee, spoke in Abuja during an exclusive interview with Sunday Sun.
He said: “Every leader, you know, has his good points and has some weaknesses. So, all of them, I can say, they did their best and they have made mistakes here and there. But like I say, it is a learning process. I hope the current President Tinubu who is in power, will learn from the mistakes the past leaders have made.

“I am not saying that I didn’t make mistakes; of course, there are lots of mistakes. Every leader does. It behoves on the current president to look at the history of the country to see where mistakes have been made and he tries to correct those mistakes and also does his own the way he thinks the country should be governed.”
Speaking further, the former leader said he has no regrets handing over governance to a democratically elected government in 1999.
“I am happy with what is going on. Yes, everything is not perfect, but here we are today, celebrating 25 years of unbroken democracy,” he said.
