A young man allegedly attempting to supply arms to bandits in Jos has been arrested by residents and handed over to the police.
The suspect, who reportedly arrived in Jos from Zamfara State on Wednesday evening, was arrested near the NTA Park in Jos while attempting to deliver the arms.
The Chairman of the Jos NTA Park, Ibrahim Maikwudi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Thursday.
Maikwudi said, “The security men arrived just in time to apprehend the suspect. The incident occurred around 5 pm Wednesday at the junction leading to the state secretariat, opposite NTA Park.

“The suspect was making calls and informing some people that he was at the NTA Park for them to come and collect their delivery. Two men nearby, who were watching and listening to his calls, suspected something was wrong.
“The two men didn’t approach the suspect directly, but when our people were alerted, they confronted him and asked some questions. His answers didn’t add up, so they caught him and checked the bag he was holding. The man protested, but when they opened the bag, it was full of arms and ammunition.
“At that point, people tried to beat him up, but we called the police to prevent the mob from killing him. Officers from the Special Investigations Bureau unit of the police arrived and took him into custody.”
The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, has yet to respond to inquiries from our correspondent at the time of filing this report.
