The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Yusuf Umar, for allegedly attempting to sell his 5-year-old daughter for N1.5 million in Dagu village, Warji Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, who paraded the suspect alongside other suspected criminals on Thursday in Bauchi, said on May 26, 2024, the accused took the child from his estranged wife in Warji LGA under the pretense of taking her to his sister in Bauchi town.
The CP said the suspect was arrested in a hotel in Bauchi where he had already agreed to sell his daughter for N1,500,000 to a stranger.

He added that Umar sent the sum of N40,000 transport fare to the person who linked him with the alleged trafficker.
“I have directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to discreetly investigate the crux of the matter to unravel more motives behind the suspect’s actions, after which he will be charged to court,” CP Muhammad added.
