Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, on Thursday, approved the appointment of his Director-General of Research and Documentation, Professor Mu’azu Usman Shehu, as permanent secretary in the state civil service.
In a statement, the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Kasimu Ahmed Abdullahi, said Prof. Shehu’s appointed is to enhance productivity and foster excellence in the civil service.
Shehu, a professor of Environmental Sociology, hails from Gombe local government area of the state.
He obtained B.Sc Sociology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2001 and joined the Gombe State University (GSU) service in 2005 as Graduate Assistant. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor.
His notable roles include Carson Fellow at the Rachel Carson Centre for Environment and Society, University of Munich, Germany. He was first appointed as Programme Coordinator, of the Gombe Goes Green (3G) project in 2019.
He was later appointed as Director-General, Research and Documentation in the Governor’s office, a post he is currently occupying.
Also, another technocrat, Muhammad Bello Abubakar Kumo, was appointed as permanent secretary.
Kumo hails from Akko local government area. He obtained B.Tech Agric Economic and Extension from Federal University of Technology, Yola Adamawa State.
He joined the service of the defunct Bank of the North in 1999 and rose to the rank of Marketing Officer/Bank Credit Coordinator, Sokoto Regional Office in 2001. He later joined the service of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) as Head of Administration and Coordination Unit at the FCT and rose through the ranks to become Branch Manager/ Katsina State Controller and Assistant General Manager, a post he held until the appointment.
Governor Yahaya expressed confidence in the capacity of the new appointees to bring their collective efforts and contribute to the growth and development of the state while discharging their new roles.
