The Kogi State government has expressed shock over the killing of two of the yet-to-be-released students of the state’s Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement in Lokoja.
The two abducted students of CUSTECH were reportedly killed by their abductors in their hideout in Kwara State at the weekend.
The state government, which said it was working to rescue all the abducted students, added that, “The killers of our students will not go unpunished.”
It said the government had rescued 21 of the abducted students alive and mobilised security operatives, including local hunters and conventional security forces, to rescue the remaining students from their abductors.
“The kidnappers contacted the families and while the dialogue for their release was ongoing, the students were killed.
“They killed the students at their hideout in Kwara State. We are currently working with security agencies to see how the remaining captives would be released,” the statement added.
The statement disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had opened dialogue with governors of the neighbouring states on how to make the hideouts of the criminals uncomfortable for them.
“We thank the governors of Kwara and Ekiti states for their cooperation and readiness to rid the evil forest of criminals,” the statement added.
It promised to support the families of the slain students in every way possible “in this dark hour of grief”, while sympathising with the CUSTECH community and the communities of the affected students.
“As a government and a people, we will do everything possible to avert any possible future occurrence and strengthen strategies to ward off evil from our state. We mourn our departed,” the statement read.
