Police kill 3 suspected kidnappers in Benue

The police in Benúe State on Wednesday gunned down three suspected kidnappers in the Sankera axis of the state.
The Spokesperson for the command, SP Catherine Anene, in a statement, said that operatives also rescued two kidnapped victims in the process of engaging the captors.
Anene noted that the Benue State Police Command under the leadership of CP Hassan Steve Yabanet achieved the feat after intensified operations across the state particularly in Sankara axis.
She said, “This operation is geared towards returning farmers to their farm lands and curbing  banditry in the area.
“On 29/5/2024 at about 0600hrs, officers of the Operation Zenda JTF stormed kidnappers’ hideout. On sighting the police, the kidnappers led by the gang leader Tersue Dada aka “Causer” engaged the team in a gun duel but were overpowered by the superior fire power of the  police.
“Consequently, three suspects sustained gunshot injuries and were eventually confirmed dead at the hospital while one of the suspects; Terver Tavershima of Tinenune, Ukum LGA was arrested.”
The police spokesperson listed items recovered from the scene to include one AK-47 rifle, one dane gun, phones, camouflage and a motorcycle.
Anene added, “Two victims were rescued unhurt. Victims stated that they were kidnapped from their homes at Ukum LGA about a week ago and the sum of N23 million was placed on them as  ransom to be paid by their families.
“The CP calls on the good people of Sankera to cooperate with police teams sent to the area as they  continue to take the fight to criminals in the area.”
