Man sentenced to death by hanging

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced a 29-year-old man, Adedayo Olawole, to death by hanging for killing one Chukwudi Joseph, in Eporo in Emure LGA.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibironke Odetola, told the court that the defendant and others at large conspired and committed the crime contrary to Sections 244 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor called six witnesses and tendered the defendant’s statement, pictures of the deceased and other documents as exhibits.

One of the prosecution witnesses told the court that, “The deceased was my cousin. Around 2pm on the day he was killed I saw the defendant and other boys. One of them held my cousin’s hands while the others hit him with planks. I shouted for help. I tried to rescue my cousin but one of the defendant’s gang members stabbed him in the left side of his chest and he fell down. They were bragging that nobody should come near them or else they would stab or kill the person.”

The defendant spoke through his lawyer, M.A. Daramola, and called one witness.

In his judgment, Justice Jubril Aladejana said, “I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant and others at large conspired to commit the felony of murder at Eporo Ekiti on 10/12/2021.

“The sentence of this court upon Adedayo Olawole, aka Wolex, is that you shall be hanged by the neck until you be dead. May God have mercy on your soul.”
