The Chairman, Board Of Trustees, Al- Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Dr Kola Adeyemi, has charged Muslim clerics and imams on the need for self development as a means to avert eating ‘from the dustbin’.
He explained that Imams and Islamic scholars are teachers who should lead from the front and show good leadership examples in the fight against corruption and any ills of the society.
Adeyemi added that this would only be achievable when the Imams sustain themselves from halal means and sources and not from questionable sources.
Adeyemi gave the advice on Saturday, during the opening of a two- day workshop themed: “Creating a Resilient Faith-Based Community For Sustained Accountability Messaging”.
The workshop supported by MacArthur Foundation and held in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, was to ensure that Imams and Islamic scholars, are enlightened on the different ways they can contribute to societal growth and fight corruption and societal ills.
Speaking further, Adeyemi stressed that the government should partner with religious leaders who will not divert whatever attention given to them towards negativity or mislead the society.
“Those who will appreciate the enormous influence that they have and use it towards the advancement of the course of governance.The government should be able to identify what they want without mincing word and not to play politics with religion”, he said.
Adeyemi, who is also the Executive Director, The Just Foundation, also hinted that the society also trains Islamic clerics in agricultural activities and its value chain.
Also speaking, a member of the society, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, said the Al-Habibiyya society has been embarking on feeding programmes for refugees in collaboration with the United Nations Commission for Refugees.
In their feedbacks, the Imam, Al-Habibiyya Society, Imam Idris Adisa and Mrs Wasilat Abiola urged Muslim clerics to be at the forefront in the fight against corruption and emulate good habits as that is what the society stands for.
