The governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has purchased 15 brand new tractors for the 2024 farming season.
He also said the state has mapped out plans to reactivate the school farming programmes in secondary and primary schools as it were in the past.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mrs Princess Nkechinyere Ezeani, disclosed this on Tuesday during an interaction with members of the Correspondent Chapel led by the state chairman, Comrade Uchenna Inya.
Mrs Ezeani further explained that the ministry has put plans in place to revitalise the famous Nkaliki hatchery in Abakaliki metropolis.
“What the state government under Governor Francis Nwifuru has procured for this year farming season is 15 tractors and 13,000 fertilizers, herbicides including other farming inputs. And this time around, it will get to the right farmers in the state.
“Also, the ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has mapped out plans to make agricultural programmes in secondary and primary schools compulsory.
“This is targeted at bringing back the school agricultural programme as it were in the past. Schools will have their own farms and a day will be set aside for agriculture.
“However, by next week, we will flag off this year’s farming season with these 15 tractors,” she noted.
