Edufirst partners UBEC on digital transformation education conference

Education First Nigeria has partnered the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to host the sixth African Education Conference (EDUTECH) aimed at ensuring the use of technology to enhance educational landscape across Africa.

The Assistant General Manager, Edufirst, Chinyere Emeruwa,  during a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday said they are focusing on ensuring that technology plays a transformative role in the educational sector.

While noting the significant advancements and positive impacts achieved through the pervious conferences, she said, “Each conference has built upon the previous one, bringing together educators, technologists, and policymakers to foster innovation in education. Our goal for the sixth edition is to surpass all previous efforts, making it the most impactful yet.”

The Chairman, Board of Trustee, Education First Nigeria, Dr Macjohn Nwabiaola, underscored the importance of technology in upscaling educational needs of the people.

Nwabiaola, a retired Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, said there was need to speedily come up with global trend as well as change the narratives in Nigeria educational pursuit.

“We are in a world where things are changing and we must ensure that our children can be enabled to compete globally when it comes to education.

“Edutech is very critical and we need to look at our policies in education, we need to bring all stakeholders and it will be holistic as children with special needs will be involved,” he said.

Also, Founder, Education First Nigeria, Moses Imayi, said the organisation and Skool Media had supported over 110 educational institutions through setting up of digital their centres.

Imayi said the goal was to put technology at the heart of learning in schools across the country noting that the centres had helped to bridge digital gaps.

“The conference is an opportunity to mobilise stakeholders to begin to look at the importance of education because if you invest in education, you are investing in the country’s socio-economic development.

Also, the Coordinator, UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Prof. Bashir Galandaci, underscored the importance of technology in learning y the commission, which crystallised the basis for hosting the conference.

Galandaci said UBEC had introduced several digital programmes with the aim of radically transforming basic education in the country.

“Our collaboration with NBCC and Edufirst ng for the sixth African Edutech Conference shows our commitment to pioneering educational reforms through technology. The DRC will serve as a hub for digital learning resources, providing access to high-quality educational materials and training for educators, thus bridging the gap between traditional teaching methods and modern digital tools,” he said.
