Director K: Wizkid Wanted ‘Essence’ Video To Be About Tems
Nigerian film maker, Aremu Olaiwola Qudus, popularly known as Director K, has stated that Wizkid wanted Tems to be the center of attention in the ‘Essence’ Video.
‘Essence’, described as the “song of the summer”, is an Afropop song that is currently on a world chart-topping run at the moment, with a remix with Canadian star Justin Bieber already in the books.
It is also the first Nigerian song to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Tems, who took the hook for the song, has been getting a lot of buzz following its release.
In a post via X on Monday, Director K, who shot the video, recalled how Wizkid wanted Tems to have the spotlight in the visuals.
He wrote: “Wiz a real one, had a meeting with him a night before we shot essence, man said I want this project to be about Tems, so I must shoot her in a different and strong light and it didn’t end there, shoot day, man stayed close to Tems, watched her do her takes and told her I want to be sure you’re good and comfortable after he’s done with his own take. really amazing to witness all that’s happening with Tems after that lil meeting.
“The meeting with Wizid was one of the reasons for the success of “Essence” music video. Wizkid was so conscious in ensuring the music video portrayed Tems as a superstar”.
