Jigawa gov flags off distribution of $250,000 World Bank loan to farmers

Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has commenced the distribution of a $250,000 World Bank loan to farmers in the state as part of the Argo-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony Tuesday in Dutse, the state capital, Governor Namadi hailed the World Bank intervention as a positive step that aligns with his government’s 12-point agenda.

Dr Nura Ibrahim, the state’s Commissioner for Environment, said the loan was designed to support rural community/farmer groups in investing in climate-smart rain-fed crops.

He said each eligible farmers’ group, comprising 10-25 beneficiaries, will receive $25,000, with a target of 2,800 groups in the state.

W/Bank partners Oyo govt on renovation of 58 schools

 Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government, in partnership with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a World Bank-assisted programme, has allocated grants for the renovation of 58 public schools in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abdulwaheed Adelabu, said selected public schools would undergo rehabilitation to improve their infrastructure.

Adelabu urged School-Based Management Committees (SBMC) and head teachers overseeing the projects in various local governments to maintain accountability and transparency in fund utilisation.
