NAPTIP prosecuting 63 human traffickers in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa

The National Agency for the Prohibition of  Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), said the agency is prosecuting 63 human traffickers in Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states.

The Zonal Commander, NAPTIP Benin Zonal Office, Bar. Nduka Nwanwenene disclosed this in Benin during the empowerment of three survivors of human trafficking in its office in Benin City.

According to him,  the 63 traffickers undergoing prosecutions in the zone were arrested between 2021 and 2024, adding that the agency has also secured the conviction of several traffickers.

He said the three survivors being empowered were trained in fashion and design, hairdressing and catering and were certified fit to start their own business.

“NAPTIP is not just arresting and prosecuting traffickers but also empowering victims of human trafficking so that they will have a means of livelihood and would no longer be vulnerable to trafficking.

“So, Our Director General, Dr. Fatima Waziri-Azi is passionate about empowering survivors of human trafficking. Today, we are empowering them with sewing machine dryer and their accessories as well as catering items”

According to him, 15 survivors are currently undergoing skill acquisition at its shelter and will be empowered after completing the training.

He however charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to be self-reliant and employers of labour, noting that some of the past beneficiaries have become employers of labour.
