The son of the late human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi, Mohammed, says he is happy that his father’s efforts are not in vain.
He was speaking to State House correspondents today at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja where his father would be posthumously honoured with the Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON).
Mohammed said he and the entire family felt proud and honoured for the recognition accorded his late father.
Fawehinmi’s wife, Ganiyat, recounted her husband’s ordeals in the hands of the military junta that annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election presumed to have been won by the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
Mrs Fawehinmi said at the peak of the agitation for the restoration of Abiola’s mandate, security officers broke into her husband’s office and carted away files yet to be returned.
