Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has said it is partnering with a number of leading energy supply companies to develop Embedded Power Generation with primary focus on Renewable Energy.
Head of Corporate Communications of the company, Sani Bala, in a statement disclosed that the target is to increase in-network generation by 40MW within 18 months in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.
He said the incremental supply in KEDCO’s network is with a view to meeting the growing energy needs of the citizens in the franchise area which has high population growth rates.
Bala also revealed that KEDCO is actively partnering with the three state governments to ease the development of incremental supply projects in the network.

Also, KEDCO has launched a brand-new payment system in order to address the issues of collection leakages by non-staff who amass money on behalf of the company.
The Managing Director of the company, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, who disclosed this explained that this new payment method introduced in collaboration with IRecharge product would also serve as a solution that will make it easier for customers to pay through various options which include WhatsApp, bank teller or USSD.
Yusuf said: “You can pay for electricity even if you are not living in Nigeria, provided you use any of the platforms deployed by IRecharge in collaboration with KEDCO.”
