Borderline communities in Cross River State have called on both federal and state governments to establish organized border patrol teams to address trespassing issues as well as the influx of Cameroonian refugees.

They made the call during a town hall meeting attended by key stakeholders such as paramount rulers, clan heads, village heads, youth groups and heads of security institutions in the district.

The Director-General of the Cross River State Border Commission (BORDERCOM), Onun Ngim Okpo, met with them as the state government continued the conduct of Baseline Survey/Needs Assessment of Border Communities.

They have lamented the continual influxes of refugees from Cameroon as well as incessant encroachments on their farmlands in borderline communities of Obanliku and Obudu LGAs in the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State.

The DG assured of swift government intervention in line with the people-centric leadership style of Governor Bassey Otu.

He emphasized the importance of peace and urged the communities to actively participate in the assessment to enhance government service delivery.
