Kano police launches 60-man school protection squad

The Kano State Police Command has unveiled a 60-man squad comprising trained and fully equipped personnel tasked with safeguarding vulnerable primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across the state.

This initiative, known as the Special Schools Protection Police Squad, aligns with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) strategy to ensure protection for schools, approached from a community policing perspective.

Commissioner of Police in Kano, Usaini Muhammed Gumel, who said that was part of his achievements under one year,  added that the school protection squad aims to create a conducive learning environment and provide maximum security for children.

Gumel also said  the command has arrested and prosecuted over 3,000 criminals for various offences, including kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, human trafficking, illicit drug dealings, and thuggery in the year under review.

Imo set to experience uninterrupted power supply as Uzodinma signs electricity bill into law

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has taken a significant step towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the state by signing the Imo State Electricity Bill into law.

Uzodinma said the agreement the state government has with Elsewedy Power Generation, an Egyptian firm, to facilitate the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in the state, all 27 local governments will enjoy reliable electricity supply.

 He noted that the federal government has approved the project, saying it is aimed at bolstering Imo state’s economy through industrialisation.

Speaking after the bill’s signing, Governor Uzodinma outlined the project’s objectives, including the creation of at least 5000 direct employment opportunities for Imo citizens and the stimulation of rural economy.

He underscored the transformative impact of uninterrupted power supply on local artisans and investors, making Imo State an attractive destination for investments
