Woman jailed 4 months for calling neighbour witch

A Shari’a court in Sharada, Kano, Kano State, has sentenced a woman, Fa’iza Usman, to four months in prison for calling her neighbour, Ummi Umar Sabon Gida, a witch.

The Judge, Sani Tanimu Sani Hausawa, who sentenced Fa’iza after she pleaded guilty to defamation of character, however, gave her an option to pay a fine of N30,000.

Earlier, the police told the court that the defendant defamed her neighbour’s character by calling her a witch, and that during police investigation, the accused confessed that she said
