Drivers arrested, 54 trucks impounded over attack on Lagos traffic officials

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said it has arrested five truck drivers who allegedly attacked and injured its officials on Wednesday.

The drivers, who are employees of Viju Milk, reportedly assaulted state government officials conducting enforcement operations along Oba Akran Way, Ikeja.

In response to the incident, the state government impounded no fewer than 54 trucks belonging to the company.

Mr Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, confirmed the arrests and stated that the state government was prepared to prosecute the drivers for taking the law into their hands.

Taofiq expressed the government’s disapproval of the attack, noting that the injured officers were part of the team deployed for an enforcement operation targeting illegally parked trucks on Oba Akran Avenue.

He said the action was prompted by public complaints about Viju Milk trucks causing traffic congestion in the area.
