5 children found dead inside parked car in Niger

Five children, including three siblings, were on Sunday evening found dead in a car parked at a compound in the Albishiri area of Minna, Niger State.

 The children, a boy and four girls, between the ages of five and 13 were said to have entered the car while playing and that the car’s doors got jammed from morning till evening when their corpses were discovered.

 When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, the parents, who were still traumatized, could not speak to the press.

 But neighbours told City & Crime that the parents of the children declared them missing around 10am on Sunday before their corpses were discovered around 5pm in a Honda car packed inside the house of the father of one of the deceased girls.

 It was learnt that their remains were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic injunctions at the Kpakungu Cemetery, Minna.

 The state’s police spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident, said, “On 21/4/2024 at about 6.30pm, based on information received at the Kpakungu Division, five children of about five to 13 years were found trapped in a Honda Civic with Reg. No. GO 778 ABC, in the Albishiri area of Minna.

 “They were found to have suffocated in the vehicle, their bodies were later removed by the various parents and the police visited the scene.

 “The owner of the vehicle was invited for questioning and the unfortunate incident is under investigation.”
