Internal crisis won’t stop us from monitoring Tinubu policies –PDP

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, has said that the party will not be deterred by its internal crisis in watching the activities of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar had recently condemned the Tinubu administration’s stand about the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway Project, describing it as wasteful and a “highway to fraud.”

Atiku said this while responding to a statement by Minister of Works, David Umahi that the 700km highway would tentatively cost N15.6 trillion.

However, in the wake of some internal strife the PDP has been grappling with particularly concerning the party’s leadership, some members of the APC had called on the opposition to focus on its own issues rather than the government under Tinubu.

Reacting to the development during a chat with ARISE TV, Ologunagba said that focusing solely on the party’s internal issues would be a disservice to the nation.

He added that the PDP as a major opposition party had the responsibility to address national concerns, such as the state of the economy and security, which affect the daily lives of Nigerians.

He also emphasized that the party’s criticism of the government under Tinubu was not merely opposition for its sake but a reflection of the party’s commitment to the interests of the people.

He said, “PDP cannot operate in isolation to the environment in which we are as a country. So it would be out of place if PDP doesn’t talk about the general insecurity in the nation and the economy that is in shambles.

“And so if APC can look around and say PDP should concentrate on itself and not bother about the economy, it means what we have described it to be has now been confirmed: a party that doesn’t have the interest of the people at heart.”
