The ASR-Africa Initiative founded by the Chairman of BUA Cement, Abdussamad Rabi’u, is constructing a N250m office accommodation for the College of Health Sciences of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday, the Managing Director of the Initiative, Uboh Ndoh, said the university was among the 22 institutions benefitting from the gesture.
According to him, the sum of USD 100m was earmarked every year for intervention in education among other sectors across Africa by the chairman of BUA group.
“USD50 million is for Nigeria alone because he (Rabi’u) believes in Nigeria and believes that we have what it takes to solve our problems. His commitment to education has no bound,” he said.

He further explained that the gesture was aimed at bridging the infrastructural gap for educational development in the country.
He added that the initiative was currently embarking on 16 international projects, including the construction of a state-of-the-art library in Ghana among others.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lawal Bilbis, noted that the building would go a long way in preparing the college for re-accreditation by the Medical and Dental Council.
He called for more collaboration.
