What to know about ICSAN

ICSAN is a leading body of recognized professionals in Nigeria set to enhance the status and practice of Corporate Governance and Public Administration.

This makes it the only professional body authorized to conduct the examinations leading to the qualification of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

ICSAN is also a member of the Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA), a Geneva-registered global organization dedicated to developing and growing the study and practice of secretaryship to improve professional standards, quality of governance practice and organizational performance.

Graduates and members of the ICSAN are found in every sector of the economy and administration as Company Secretaries, General Managers, Finance Managers, Chief Accountants, Heads of Finance, Directors of Administration, Chairmen and Chief Executives of Public and Private Companies, and in the Civil Service, Parastatals and the Armed Forces.

With members of the body in various organisations, a prime example is Dame (Dr) Adaora Umeoji OON, a member of the Chapter who emerged as the Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank.

CSAN’s Qualifying Scheme is unique. No other professional body provides a postgraduate qualification that is as broad-based as the ICSAN’s. Chartered Secretaries and Administrators are trained in business, corporate governance, company law, management, finance, administration, management information systems and company secretaryship.

Its members are multi-skilled, and versatile professionals hence can fit into any part of an organisation where finance, administration, secretaryship, data management and related jobs, are handled.

Every public company must have a Company Secretary with the requisite knowledge. Only the ICSAN qualification specifically addresses the requirements of this role.

Chartered Secretaries are highly valued by employers and benefit from a career that is well-remunerated and flexible. Once qualified, Chartered Secretaries can choose to work in the public, private or not-for-profit or set up their own businesses. Welcome to the profession with a world of possibilities.

ICSAN’s Post-Qualifying Education (PQE) helps Chartered Secretaries and Administrators adapt by updating their knowledge and skills throughout their careers. This is achieved through a range of programmes e.g. conferences, workshops, public lectures, roundtables on corporate governance and Mandatory Continuing Professional Education (MCPE).
