2 feared dead as cultists strike in Kwara

Suspected cultists have reportedly killed one Adelodun Faruq of Eleran Compound, Ile Film, in Ilọrin West LGA of Kwara state for challenging them while they were searching for a member of a rival group.

A source explained that, “They came on Friday night pointing torchlights on the faces of residents who were sitting outside. They appeared offended by the action of the late Faruq who asked them who they were and what they were looking for. They shot him dead instantly, leaving the area in turmoil.”

The spokeswoman of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident during a telephone chat with our correspondent on Sunday, added that there were two attacks in the area.

Ejire-Adeyemi said, “The first incident happened around 9pm on Saturday and the family buried the deceased before we got to know. They are Muslims and their religion doesn’t allow a corpse to stay long.

“Hours later, another gang stormed a nearby area at Centre Igboro and macheted one Abdullahi Alao, an Okada rider. The family also took him to an unknown destination for treatment. We don’t know whether he survived.

“However, an investigation is ongoing to arrest the suspects.”
