Eid el-fitr: FCT monarch urges farmers, herders on peace

The Agora of Zuba in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, Alhaji Muhammed Bello Umar, has urged farmers and herders to continue to live in peace with each other.

Alhaji Umar made the call shortly after he joined other Muslims to observe the two Raka’at prayers to mark the end of this year’s Ramadan fast at the Eid ground in Zuba on Wednesday.

He emphasised the need for farmers and herders to cohabit peacefully, saying peace and unity could only be achieved when there was tolerance.

He also urged district, village and community leaders across the chiefdom to sensitise their subjects on the importance of sustaining harmony among ethnic groups.

He said, “Just the way a farmer values his crops, that is the way a Fulani man also values his cows, hence both of them must tolerate each other for peace to reign.”

He stressed on the need for Muslims to use the occasion of the Eid el-Fitr to emulate the teachings of the Prophet (SAW), even as he urged them to continue to live in peace and harmony with each other irrespective of tribal, ethnic and religious affiliations.

He also called on parents to ensure that they sent their wards to acquire both Islamic and Western education, saying education was the bedrock of society.
