The Vice-chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Muhammed Buba Jajere, has congratulated the Super Falcons on their ticket to represent Africa at the 2024 Olympics games in Paris, France.
After a slim 1-0 win in the first leg of the final qualifying round last Friday in Abuja, the nine-time African Champions forced the Banyana Banyana of South Africa to a goalless draw in the return leg on Tuesday in Pretoria to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Jajere who expressed satisfaction with the Super Falcons performance in the qualifiers said Paris Olympics is an opportunity for the girls to atone for their past performances which feel short of expectations.
The Super Falcons’ last Olympics appearance was in 2008 in Beijing, China.

In three Olympic appearances, the Super Falcons have won only one match, scored seven goals and conceded 18.
Therefore, Jajere who represents Fune/Fika Federal Constituency in Yobe State has urged the Super Falcons to ensure they improve on their Olympics record in Paris.
“I heartily congratulate the Super Falcons on their laudable achievement. It wasn’t easy to beat the reigning African champions to the ticket. They have indeed brought joy to millions of Nigerians.
“Having won the ticket, they must switch attention to the Olympics proper. Their past outings didn’t measure up to Nigerians’ expectations so this time, they must do better.
“Although they have found themselves in a group which is considered by many to be a group of death, I still believe that if given the necessary support, the Super Falcons will represent the continent very well,” said Jajere.
The Super Falcons are in Group C with Brazil, Spain and Japan, the only country they have beaten in their three Olympics appearances.
