Inverter fire razes buildings in Kwara

A fire outbreak at University Road, Tanke, Ilọrin, Kwara State capital, has gutted a building, destroying six bedrooms in the process.

The inferno, it was learnt, originated from an inverter system power supply used by one of the occupants.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

According to him, “There was no power supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). An unusual sound emanating from the inverter system prompted concern, leading to continuous sparks and ultimately igniting the fire.

“Notably, the absence of fire-retardant materials in the building’s construction, including aluminium roofing sheets, plastic ceilings, and planks, facilitated the rapid spread of the flames,” he noted.

Adekunle said the director of the service, Prince Falade John, expressed sympathy for the victims and extended prayers for the replacement of their lost belongings.

He emphasised the importance of maintaining safety consciousness at all times, urging vigilance and caution to prevent such incidents in the future.
