Ex-Labour Party Chieftain, other things to know about new Edo deputy gov

On Monday, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State announced the appointment of Omobayo Marvellous, aged 38, as his new deputy.

This followed the impeachment of Philip Shaibu, who was elected with him in 2016 and reelected in 2020.

Justice Daniel Okungbowa, the Chief Judge of Edo State, conducted the swearing-in ceremony for Omobayo, who has pledged his commitment to assist Governor Obaseki in concluding his second term.

Birth and Origin

Omobayo was born on July 19, 1986, and originates from Ibillo in the Akoko-Edo local government area.

Education

He is an alumnus of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), holding a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Administration.

Professional Affiliations

Omobayo is a recognized member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Political Career

He was the Labour Party’s candidate for the Federal House of Representatives seat in the Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections.

Professional background

Omobayo’s professional background extends to the oil and gas sector, where he has served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited.
