The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has said it will recall some of its members suspended in the wake of the controversial primaries held during the 2023 elections.
The party’s state chairman, Sikirulai Ogundele, while speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the weekend in Abeokuta, the state capital, said there was the need to reconcile aggrieved members and consolidate ahead of the 2027 governorship and other elections in the state.
Daily Trust reports that in October 2022, the party announced the suspension of one of its governorship aspirants, Jimi Lawal, for organising what was termed an illegal primary election.
Others suspended by the party were the state financial secretary, Hon. Bola Odumosu; Fasiu Ajadi from Abeokuta South; Alhaji Kola Akinyemi and the chairman of the party in Ijebu North East, Aremo Tope Ashiru.

The five PDP members were suspended by the party’s State Working Committee at a meeting held at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
They were sanctioned for organising a congress against the decision of the party at all levels, an act described by the party as contravening the constitution of the PDP.
Ogundele said, “The state executive will meet soon to announce the reinstatement of all the suspended members in the spirit of reconciliation. All meetings henceforth are to be held at the party secretariat. Any meeting outside the secretariat will be considered as a mere group meeting which is politically and constitutionally allowed.”
