Oloro: Succession not do or die, Kwara gov tells contenders

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has called on contenders for the stool of the late Oloro of Oro, Oba Abdulrafiu Ajiboye Oyelaran, not to see his succession as a do or die affair in the interest of peace.

The governor gave the advice in Oro during a prayer session for the late monarch.

He urged the contenders to avoid actions and utterances that could inflame emotions during and after the search for a successor.

He said, “Succession to the revered stool should not be seen as a do or die affair or an act of war among contestants.’’

He noted that such action would do grave damage to the memory of the late monarch and the reputation of the kingdom.

He called on the Oloro-in council to stick to the established process which placed premium on equity, justice and fairness in the succession process.

The governor, who was represented by the Oloriewe of Oro Kingdom and chieftain of the APC, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, said only those validly nominated and presented by the traditional rulers would be considered for endorsement by the state government.

Our correspondent further reports that the death of the Oloro of Oro last month generated tension from interested successors.
