A 30-year-old man, Abubakar Umar, was on Thursday sentenced to one year in prison by a Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja for stealing two posts and a gas cylinder.
The Judge, Isa Adamu, however gave the convict an option of N35,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
He pleaded guilty to the three-count charge of criminal trespass, shop breaking and theft.
Adamu also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N140,000 as compensation to the complainant.

The prosecution council, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant; Mr Anthony Sambo of behind City College, Karu, Abuja reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on March 17.
According to him, the complainant alleged that on same date, the convict broke into his shop, located at the above-mentioned address and stole two pots and one 12.5kg gas cylinder.
He said the two pots are valued at N140,000 and a 12.5kg gas cylinder, valued at N50,000, all amounting to N190,000.
Osho explained that during police investigation, the gas cylinder was recovered, while the two pots could not be recovered.
He said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Sections 348, 353 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
