Electricity tariff hike: PRP flays FG, calls action insensitive

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has strongly criticized the federal government’s decision to increase electricity tariffs by over 300%, describing it as not only insensitive but also a blatant disregard for the plight of the citizens.

In a statement by its Ag. National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, the party expressed deep concern over the increment, especially following the removal of fuel subsidy and the massive devaluation of the naira.

It noted that these actions have led to increased living costs and hardships for the populace, making the electricity tariff hike an unconscionable burden on the already struggling populace.

“As a party that champions the welfare of the people, we express our deep concern and share the shock felt by millions of Nigerians who are grappling with the harsh realities of survival. This decision by the government is not only insensitive but also demonstrates a blatant disregard for the plight of the citizens,” the statement read.

The party called on the government to reconsider the decision and prioritize the well-being of its citizens. It urged the authorities to explore alternative solutions that would not further exacerbate the suffering of Nigerians, such as investing in the exploration and expansion of alternative renewable sources of electricity supply like solar, biogas and wind energy.

“The current economic situation demands empathy, understanding, and a collective effort to uplift the people, not policies that push them deeper into hardship,” the statement concluded.
