The Director General of the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Prof Jeffery Barminas, has said that the institute is working to stop the $13.291 million Nigeria is spending on the importation of adhesives every year.

Barminas, who spoke with journalists in Abuja yesterday, said that the agency had developed an innovative project which harnessed natural rubber latex to produce adhesives for use in the leather, wood, paper, foam, footwear, upholstery and textile industries.

He said NARICT was the nation’s chemical technology research institute with the mandate to develop its abundant natural resources for useful industrial applications.
