Suspected killer of policeman’s son nabbed in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Rabi’u Adamu (20), who allegedly murdered one Christopher Bala (12), the son of a police officer, ASP Bala Yarima of Gumau Division, Bauchi State. 

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed the arrest in a statement in Bauchi, said the victim was abducted while on an errand.

Wakil said preliminary investigations indicated that Rabi’u is the prime suspect, adding that the investigations also revealed alarming details of extortion and blood relation between the suspect, the victim and his family.

He said the suspect had admitted to have kidnapped and murdered Christopher and as well collected N200,000 ransom from the victim’s father, ASP Yarima.

Wakil added that the suspect admitted that he thought that the victim recognised him and he decided to strangle him and bury the body in a shallow grave at Bazale village’s hill.

“Following established procedures, the Bauchi State Police Command exhumed the victim’s remains. A postmortem examination was conducted at the General Hospital, Toro, which confirmed the cause of death as strangulation. Subsequently, the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation, following a directive by the Commissioner of Police,” he said.

The command assures the family that a relentless pursuit of justice is underway.

He also called on households to be more vigilant over the people they keep close, particularly family and friends, for the safety and security of their immediate family.
