Two passengers lost their lives while six others, including an elderly woman, sustained various degrees of injuries when an 18-seater commuter bus crashed at Manderegi village along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
A witness, who is a resident of Manderegi, Yahaya Saidu, said the accident happened around 1:07 pm on Wednesday when the fully loaded bus crashed and summersaulted into the bush by the road side.
He said it was suspected that the driver, who was coming from Lokoja axis, lost control while on top speed after one of the back tyres busted, leaving the two passengers dead.
When City & Crime visited the Abaji General Hospital, where the victims were taken to, it was gathered that one person died at the hospital, while the other died at the accident scene.

Our reporter observed as the rescue officials of the Abaji unit command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) brought both the injured victims and the corpse of one of the victims to the hospital. An official of the FRSC, who was part of the rescue team but preferred anonymity, confirmed that one person died at the scene of the accident while the other died at the hospital.
He said six other passengers including an elderly woman sustained injuries, adding that two among the six victims were taken to Ayaura primary healthcare center along Agyana road in the area.
