Cleric seeks urgent solution to Nigeria’s economic woes

An Abuja-based Muslim cleric, Abdullah Musa Abu Jabar, has urged the federal and state governments to come up with urgent solutions to the myriad of problems facing Nigerians.

Abu Jabar said recent government policies had pushed many citizens below the poverty line and made life unbearable for millions.

He spoke at the 17th Annual Ramadan Lecture/Iftar organised by the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association (UNIFEMGA).

The cleric said, “Nigerians are passing through a lot as a result of the country’s economic situation.

“I want to appeal to those in the corridors of power to provide urgent solutions to ease the affairs of the citizens.

“The leaders should depend on Allah, fear Him, connect with Him and make life more comfortable for the citizenry.”

The chairman of UNIFEMGA FCT chapter, Alhaji Ismail Okunlola, said the association was established to promote Islamic brotherhood through scholarships, dawah (lectures) and empowerment.

He said more than 850 indigent students had benefited from the scholarship scheme since its inception in 2008.
