Another union begins strike, shuts labs, ICT centre in Unimaid

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has embarked on three-day industrial action to press home its demands.

This is coming on the back of a seven-day warning strike embarked on by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) since Monday.

The Chairman of the NAAT, University of Maiduguri chapter, Comrade Yusuf Dalhatu Bulus, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the University of Maiduguri on Wednesday.

He noted that, abiding by the outcome of the NAAT Virtual conference held on March 13, 2024, all laboratories and ICT centre of the university had been shut down.

“All laboratories were shut down, there will be no conducting and teaching of practicals, no project works and no conducting of research works,” he said.

He said the strike would continue fo three days unless the government addresses the grievances raised by the association.

According to him, the government had not implemented the 2009 agreement, payment of outstanding earned allowances and the release of enabling circular for carrier elongation for CONTISS 14 and 15.

Other demands, Bulus said, include the upgrade of obsolete equipment and improving the dilapidated structural state of laboratories in the citadel of higher learning and re-negotiation of the aforementioned 2009 agreement.
