The popular Wuse market in Abuja reopened for business on Friday, three days after violence triggered by killing of a hawker.
About 10 shops were burnt, 8 vehicles, including a police van and that of a correctional facility, were also set ablaze.
The Public Relation Officer of the Abuja Market Management Limited AMML, Innocent Obiechina, confirmed to Daily Trust that the market was reopened around 12 pm Friday.
He said the development was sequel to stakeholders’ continued engagements, that ended at the office of the FCT police commissioner, CP Bennett Igwe, on Friday.
He noted that issues of security and economic reasons were considered on arriving at the decision.
“Traders association and the market management as well as other stakeholders reviewed the issue, and agreed that the market should be immediately reopened.
“It was understood that the longer the facility was kept locked, the more people would suffer, and there could be multiple effects to that that could better be imagined” the PRO said in a phone conversation with our reporter.
