A cleric, Dr Nafiu Ahmed Arikewuyo Al-Jawharih, has enjoined Muslims to avoid social media platforms during Ramadan.
The move, he said, would ensure focus and guide against immoral distractions while the month-long fast lasts.
Al-Jawharih spoke at a Ramadan seminar organised by the Muslim Congress (TMC), Kwara State, in conjunction with other Islamic bodies.
He said, “Muslims should deactivate Facebook and other social media accounts because of unsolicited immoral content. The negative impact of this on our fast is extremely damaging and deceptive.”

He said Ramadan was not only about abstaining from food and drink during the daytime but ears, eyes and other parts of the body must all be involved.
A lecturer at Al-Hikmah University said repentance, lowering of the gaze, reading the Qur’an with its meanings, and revival of iman among others were good preparation for accepted Ramadan.
