Motorists and commuters plying the Abuja-Lokoja road were on Thursday held in traffic gridlock for several hours following the flooding of some portion of the highway.
Daily Trust reports that the River Niger overflows its bank to the highway around Kporoko area of the popular Nataco Junction in Lokoja following an overnight torrential rainfall that lasted for hours.
Several residential buildings and shops around the river bank were submerged in the raging flood.
Also submerged by the flood are some houses around Felele community of Lokoja.
In the same vein, some portion of the Lokoja-Ajaokuta road was also flooded around the Ganaja village axis of the state capital.
Our correspondent observed that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the police, Navy, Army and the civil defence corps were on ground to control the chaotic traffic situation after the water receded.
