President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after a two-day official visit to the State of Qatar on the invitation of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The presidential jet conveying the President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja around 6:50pm and was received by government officials.
Among the dignitaries led by Vice President Kashim Shettima were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Others were the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) Abdullahi Ganduje; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi.
During the visit, the Nigerian officials signed seven bilateral agreements with their Qatari counterparts in various sectors of the economy.
The signing of the agreements which was witnessed alongside the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, after a closed-door meeting between the two leaders includes cooperation agreement in the field of education; regulation of employment of workers with the Government of Qatar; establishment of a joint business council between the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture.
There were also agreements in the area of cooperation in the field of youths and sports, cooperation in the field of tourism and business events, and a memorandum of understanding aimed at combating illicit trade in narcotic drugs and other substances.
The documents were signed un behalf of Nigeria by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and relevant officials in the Government of the State of Qatar.
President Tinubu also presided over the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum where he asked Qatari business men to report any Nigerian official who demands any form of bribe from them before allowing them conduct business in the country.
The President also assured his hosts about the readiness of the Nigerian population especially its youth population, which he said was ready and competent.
The President also assured the international business community that Nigeria was ready for serious business, vowing that his administration would deal decisively with any and all entrenched interests undermining investors’ confidence in the Nigerian economy.
He also pledged to remove all bottlenecks standing in the way of profitable and legitimate enterprise, saying the country would no longer be plagued down by the narratives of the past.
